Sixteen
Not sweet, but punk rock
Wrapped in swing
A vintage dress
Covered in red roses
Red chucks to match
Red lips to boot
Hair curled and pinned
Charleston
And east coast meets west coast
At the corner of California and 22nd
Ascending narrow steps
Above the din
Of poetry
To a hardwood floor
Covered in revelry
Red Hot Tomatoes
Sounding horns
Above dancing feet
“It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing...”
Red roses and Red Hot Tomatoes
Red lips
Red chucks
Red cheeks of youth in bloom
Lindy hopping around the room
Flying in the air
The crimson roses on cream silk tear
Safety pins
Held it all together
Til the end of the night
A dress in tatters
Bursting at the seams
A heart full
Bursting at the seems
Sweet sixteen
